Phase I
involves education and therapy for patients in the
hospital. For the first few days following the diagnosis
of heart disease, staff members answer questions and carefully
increase the approved activity level, beginning with sitting and
standing and gradually working up to walking short distances
under supervision.
Phase II is an
exercise and risk factor modification program supervised and
monitored by nurses and exercise specialists. This outpatient
program generally lasts four to eight weeks and patients find it
fun, invigorating and comforting. Telemetry (ECG)
monitoring will be provided while you exercise on modern fitness
equipment. If you are recovering from a heat attack,
bypass surgery, valve replacement surgery, angioplasty,
congestive heart failure, angina or a heart transplant, you may
be a candidate for Phase II cardiac rehabilitation.
Classes are scheduled at convenient times throughout the day to
accommodate your schedule. Many people attend classes
three times a week during this phase.
ULTIMATE GOAL: HEALTHY LIVING

Phase III assists you in
recovery and achieving long-term commitment to a healthy
lifestyle. It is an ongoing exercise and education program
designed for patients that do not have cardiac rehab coverage.
Phase III is $8.00 a session and provides intermittent telemetry
monitoring.
Phase IVis tailored to meet
varying levels of fitness and each patient's needs. For apparently healthy
individuals with no previous history of heart disease or graduates
of the Phase II or III program, we also offer a special "Phase IV"
Health and Wellness program available through the Lahser site or the
Jewish Community
Center (JCC) in West Bloomfield. This fitness program includes
certified supervision on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If you
are attending the JCC site you do not need a JCC member to join and
may use all of the JCC facilities at any tome (not limited to
scheduled class hours). The price for phase IV is $6.00. For more information, call
248-352-3736.
