These are educational classes designed to increase the patient’s and their
families knowledge of heart disease. These classes are open to all of our
cardiac rehab patients and their families.
Nutrition - A Registered Dietitian from Sinai-Grace Hospital provides
this nutritional education. Patients will learn about the different
types of fats found in foods and which ones should be avoided. They will
also learn how to choose low-fat heart healthy foods at home as well as
eating out, and be instructed on how to read the labels on food
products.
Pharmacy - This class is provided by a Registered Pharmacist and is
designed to assist the cardiac patient and their family with a greater
understanding of the medications they are taking and how each one affects the
heart. Cardiac medications, their effects on the heart, how to properly
administer them, and any contraindications will be reviewed.
