If you’re looking for physical activity
that’s easy and low-cost, with little or no training required, look no further
than your own two feet. Walking is
a great way to get in shape, and can also help manage chronic conditions such as
high blood pressure and diabetes.
Sinai-Grace’s Heart Walking Clubs
offer a fun and safe alternative to walking alone. Friends, family, co-workers
or neighbors can create their own club based on the walking times or locations
that work best for the group. Groups walk for a minimum of 30 minutes, two or
three times each week. Clubs are open to
anyone 14 years old, so make it a family affair.
To
support the walkers’ commitment to fitness, Sinai-Grace provides monthly
blood pressure and weight screening for all Heart Walking Club
participants. Screenings are free of charge, and are provided at five
locations.
In addition, Heart Walking Club members
receive other perks and discounts on certain
Sinai-Grace services by showing their membership card. Start your
Heart Walking Club today!

Taking Steps Toward
Fitness: Getting
Started
Starting a Heart Walking Club is easy! This commitment to walking 2 or 3 days
each week will result in a healthier lifestyle and will reduce risks of heart
disease and stroke.
Starting a club is as easy as
1-2-3.
Here are a few tips to get your
club off on the right foot.
1.
Choose your walking schedule and location: Select two or three days, walking at
least 30 minutes each day. By identifying two or three people to
determine your club’s walking days, times and location(s), it will be easier to
coordinate and set the schedule.
You’ll want to do this prior to adding members to your
group.
2.
Recruit your club members: Once you have the schedule and location
determined, spread the word to add more walkers to your club. There is no limit on the size of your
club or the ages of the members, so be sure to include friends, family and
co-workers.
3.
Complete and submit your club roster: Complete the member roster for your club. This is an important step to ensure each
member receives a membership
card. Fax the completed form online
to Adrienne Redden, at (313) 966-3160.
That’s all you need to do to
get your club moving! Don’t forget
to take advantage of the free
blood pressure screening and weight monitoring to help
keep your goals in sight.
