Endoscopic sinus surgery, often referred to as sinoscopy, involves
inserting a narrow, hollow tube with a tiny camera on the end, into
the sinus cavity so the surgeon can see inside. This allows the
surgeon to use lasers or other instruments to treat the root cause
of the symptoms.
Sinoscopy is generally an outpatient procedure. Sinoscopy generally
involves less trauma to surrounding tissue, and allows the surgeon
to reach areas the previously could not be directly seen during
conventional sinus surgery.
Many endoscopic examinations and surgical procedures can be preformed
using local or regional anesthesia, which means a general anesthetic
may not be necessary.
