Sinai-Grace Hospital Ambulatory Surgery

After Surgery

  1. You will be taken to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (recovery) where you will receive special care while awakening from anesthesia. The physician will notify your family member that you are in the recovery area.
  2. The registered nurse taking care of you will notify your family members when they may join you in the recovery area.
  3. When you have awakened and your blood pressure is stable, you will be discharged home.
  4. Expect to be drowsy the remainder of the day.
  5. Discharge instructions will be provided and any questions answered.
  6. After discharge, you will be taken to the Ambulatory Surgery exit in a wheelchair.
  7. Do not drive a car, sign legal documents, operate machinery, drink alcoholic beverages or use recreational drugs for at least 24 hours after surgery.
  8. When you arrive home, please take it easy. Let your family members or friends wait on you. Make sure a responsible adult stays the night.
  9. The next working day after surgery, a nurse will telephone you to check on your progress. Please return by mail the patient evaluation.
  10. If you have unexpected severe pain, heavy bleeding, a temperature higher than 101degrees Fahrenheit or other problems call your surgeon or go the emergency room.
