Mission Statement
The Detroit Medical Center Sinai-Grace HIV/AIDS Program is dedicated to providing high quality, efficient health care in a compassionate manner to individuals and families infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. In addition, we actively engage in the education of our patients, healthcare providers and our community. As part of the Wayne State University teaching program, we are committed to research that can advance the knowledge of this disease.
A Message From the Program Coordinator
In 1999, the Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center HIV/AIDS Program began to investigate the possibility of expanding services within the City of Detroit. With one clinic located on Central Campus at the University Health Center, it soon became evident that the needs of those infected and affected by the epidemic of HIV/AIDS warranted additional services.
After careful study of demographic information, Northwest Detroit was selected as an area that could immediately benefit from such an expansion. With an emphasis on building collaborations with community based agencies, the Northwest site is optimally located in the Blumberg Professional Building on the grounds of Sinai-Grace Hospital.
We exist to provide state of the art medical care to patients with HIV disease, to educate the local community regarding the effects of indifference towards the disease, to train health care professionals and patients, and to provide a safe, open environment where learning is possible. The site has doubled its original patient load in just one year and has established itself as a permanent fixture in Northwest Detroit.
Available Services
- Specialty Medical Care
- Free confidential and anonymous HIV testing and counseling
- Both tests maintain confidentiality. The distinction between the two is that in an anonymous test the client is identified by a unique identifier (a number) and is not required to disclose any personal information (ex. Name, address, phone number), while a confidential test will have the client's personal information associated with it. The disclosure of the client's name is necessary in the case of a positive test result in order to access appropriate medical intervention.
- One on one patient education
- Coordination of care with your primary care physician
- We are committed to providing family-centered care and affirm that clients have the right to design their own optimal treatment plan with the guidance of our multidisciplinary team comprised of both a male and a female physician, a family advocate, a nurse practitioner, a case manager and social worker, and prevention counselors.
